Seva: Selfless Service

Vand Chhakna. Share what you have. One of the three pillars of Sikh life is the sharing of one's blessings with those in need. This is not charity in the conventional sense; it is the recognition that what we have belongs to God, and we are merely its stewards.

"One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, shall attain his Lord and Master."

Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 286
🙌

Tan

Physical Seva

Give your time, energy, and physical effort. Cook Langar, clean the Gurdwara, help a neighbour, care for the sick.

🧠

Man

Mental Seva

Give your mind and heart. Listen to someone in pain, offer wisdom, pray for others, teach, mentor, and encourage.

💛

Dhan

Material Seva

Give from your wealth. Support the feeding of the hungry, contribute to community causes, and practice Dasvandh.

Dasvandh: The Tenth Part

The Sikh tradition of Dasvandh calls on every Sikh to contribute one-tenth of their earnings to the community and to those in need. This is not a tax or an obligation. It is a spiritual practice that keeps the ego in check and the heart open.

The Guru Granth Sahib teaches: "One who works for what he eats, and gives some from his hand. O Nanak, he knows the Path." (Ang 1245)

Online Giving: Register Your Interest

We are setting up a secure way for you to contribute to the feeding of the needy and other community causes. All contributions will be directed to verified causes and reported transparently. Register your interest below and we will contact you when online giving is ready.

In the meantime, please give to your local Gurdwara Langar and food banks.

A Daily Seva Framework

Morning

Offer your day to God in Ardaas and ask to be used in His service.

During the day

One act of kindness: a kind word, helping someone, giving something, listening to someone in pain.

At meals

Before eating, remember those who are hungry. Give something regularly to those in need, even a small amount.

Evening

Reflect: where did I serve today? Where did I fall short? Ask God for the grace to do better tomorrow.

Weekly

Attend the Gurdwara and serve in the Langar when possible.
