About The Guru's Light
A resource born from a personal journey, offered as Seva to every Sikh and every curious soul who has ever wanted to understand the Guru's teachings in plain, honest language.
The Story Behind This Resource
This resource was founded by Amarjit Singh, a 60-year-old Sehajdhari Sikh, born in England, the son of an Amritdhari father. Like millions of Sikhs in the diaspora, Amarjit grew up speaking Punjabi but unable to read Gurmukhi, and therefore unable to access the Guru Granth Sahib directly.
For most of his life, the answers to the most important questions about death, forgiveness, sin, heaven and hell, the purpose of prayer, and the meaning of Seva remained out of reach. Not because the answers did not exist, but because the barriers of language, complexity, and gatekeeping kept them inaccessible.
The Guru's Light was created to remove those barriers. Every question that a diaspora Sikh might ask, whether they are Amritdhari or clean-shaven, whether they attend the Gurdwara every week or have not been in years, deserves a direct, honest, referenced answer from the Guru's own words.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal, living Guru. All answers are there. This resource simply helps people find them.
"The Guru is the ocean, full of pearls. The Saints gather the jewels."
Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 1328Our Guiding Principles
Grounded in Source
Every answer is referenced to the Guru Granth Sahib (with Ang numbers) or the Sikh Rehat Maryada. No opinion, no interpretation without a citation. You can verify every teaching for yourself.
No Gatekeeping
There are no foolish questions here. Every question is welcome, from the most basic to the most profound. Complexity is the enemy of understanding.
For Everyone
This resource is for Amritdhari Sikhs, Sehajdhari Sikhs, the diaspora, non-Sikhs who are curious, educators, and families. The Gurdwara is open to all; so is the Guru's Light.
Respectful of All
We do not knock other faiths or traditions. We simply present what the Guru Granth Sahib and the Sikh Rehat Maryada teach. The Guru's words speak for themselves.
Founder & Curator
Amarjit Singh is named as the founder and curator of this resource, not out of ego, but out of accountability. Every resource needs someone who takes responsibility for its integrity and direction.
Amarjit's name is here as a commitment: that this resource will remain honest, grounded in the Guru's words, respectful of all, and free from the gatekeeping that has kept so many diaspora Sikhs from the teachings they were born into.
This is his Seva, and yours too. Every time you share a question, share an answer, or simply find clarity here, you are part of it.
